We started with an 80″ long bed, but it overhung the bench seat too much. Cutting it down to 73″ is still very workable and makes the bench seat comfy again.
Mounting a microwave oven
The microwave is great – prepare food in advance, then just nuke it to reheat on the road. But it needs to be secure in the van. Here’s how we did it.
Passenger seat lock box
I’ve been emailing back and forth with another Sprinter owner who just installed his Espar heater under the passenger seat. That means he doesn’t have room to use it for storage any more, so he sent me his locking door!
Ceiling coving and lights
LED spot lights, LED light strips and “party lights” all contained in corner-mounted coving panels.
Adding suspension seats
The stock seats are fine for a delivery truck, but if you are driving across the country they are not the most comfortable place to park your butt. We decided to upgrade using a third party option. Continue reading “Adding suspension seats”
Quick change cabinets
Our cabinets can be bolted in and out of the van as we need them. The plan is to keep them in place most of the time, but it’s great to be able to reconfigure the van as we need it. Continue reading “Quick change cabinets”
Finding space for a bed in a bike hauling van
With four bikes in the back of the van, and living space up front, there’s not much room for a bed. The only option is to mount it above the bikes using removable panels. Continue reading “Finding space for a bed in a bike hauling van”
Seat swivels to make the cab space useful when camping
We bought swivel plates so we can turn the driver and passenger seat around to face backwards. That way, when we’re camped out, the whole cab area becomes part of the living space. Continue reading “Seat swivels to make the cab space useful when camping”
Bed panels have arrived!
The bed panels and rails that we ordered from Overland Sprinters have arrived, and now we need to fit them to the van. Continue reading “Bed panels have arrived!”
A slide-out drawer for bike access
We’ve been living with some regular bike stands in the back of the van, but they are hassle to use. Every time we drive anywhere we have to clamp the bikes down with a cargo strap.
Longer term, we plan to add a drawer with built-in bike racks and fork mounts. Pulling the drawer out will give us easy access to load and unload the bikes. Continue reading “A slide-out drawer for bike access”
